It's a sad day for freedom in Oklahoma.

SB1456 was promoted as a way to get solar and wind users to pay their "fair share" of infrastructure costs for sending excess electricity back to their local electric company. Not mentioned was the fact that these companies are government-protected monopolies and customers have no choice about doing business with them. The message this sends to Oklahomans is: "You want to stand on your own two feet and live "off the grid"? Fat chance!"

This bill treats Oklahomans as serfs, not free citizens.

It's time to recognize that the "natural monopoly" approach to infrastructure is a scam. What infrastructure needs is a free market. End the government's power to grant monopolies. Abolish the Oklahoma Corporation Commission. Separate state and utilities.

Yes, folks, there you have it: Oklahoma's budget "shortfall" is an illusion due to the fact that - even though state revenues are growing - special interests demand even more money. All these dire straits and emergencies they claim to exist are due solely to the fact that government is intruding in areas it shouldn't be, rejecting the principle that the only moral function of government is the protection of individual rights - nothing more, nothing less.
